Safari Essentials FAQ

Everything you need to know before you embark on your journey into the Kenyan wilderness.

What is the best time for the Great Migration?
The Great Migration typically reaches the Maasai Mara between July and October. This is the peak season for witnessing dramatic river crossings and predator-prey interactions.
Do I need a visa for Kenya?
Yes, most international visitors require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to enter Kenya. We recommend applying through the official government portal at least 2 weeks before your travel date.
Is it safe to go on a safari in Kenya?
Kenya is a well-established safari destination. Our professional guides prioritize your safety at all times, especially around wildlife. Standard travel precautions apply in urban centers like Nairobi.
What vaccinations or health precautions are needed?
We recommend consulting your doctor for advice on anti-malaria medication. A Yellow Fever certificate is required if you are traveling from a country with a risk of transmission. Standard vaccinations (Hep A, Typhoid) are advised.
What are the luggage restrictions for internal flights?
Bush flights on small aircraft strictly enforce a limit of 15kg (33 lbs) per person, including hand luggage. Bags must be soft-sided (duffel style) to fit in the small cargo holds.
Is Wi-Fi available in the bush?
Most luxury lodges offer Wi-Fi in common areas (lounges/dining rooms), though speeds vary due to remote locations. It is the perfect opportunity to unplug and connect with nature.
What is the etiquette for tipping?
Tipping is customary but voluntary. A general guideline is $15-20 per person per day for your safari guide, and $10-15 per day for general lodge staff (usually placed in a communal tip box).
What should I pack for a safari?
Neutral-colored (khaki, olive, beige) clothing is best. Avoid bright colors or blue/black which attracts tsetse flies. Pack layers for cool mornings, a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, and high-quality binoculars.
