The Highland Itinerary
Day 1-2: The Nyeri Terroir 1,800m
Day 1: Drive north from Nairobi into the heart of Nyeri. Check into a colonial-era lodge nestled within a working coffee farm. Afternoon “Nursery-to-Cup” walk.
Day 2: Visit the **Othaya Coffee Farmers Cooperative**. Engage with smallholder farmers, witness the SL-28 and SL-34 varietals, and explore the red volcanic soil profiles that define Nyeri’s cup quality.
Day 3-4: Mt. Kenya Forest Ecology Conservation
Day 3: Enter the Mount Kenya National Park. Guided trek through the Bamboo zone and Podocarpus forests. Learn about the forest’s role as a water tower for Kenya.
Day 4: Canopy walk and bird watching (search for the Hartlaub’s Turaco). Afternoon visit to a forest restoration project where you can plant a native tree seedling.
Day 5-6: Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Transition to the Laikipia plateau. Focus on the **Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary** and meeting the world’s last two remaining Northern White Rhinos. Night game drives to spot the elusive Aardvark or Bat-eared Fox.
Day 7-8: Highland Retreat & Return
A relaxed morning of fly-fishing in mountain streams or a final cupping session of Nyeri’s finest auction lots. Return to Nairobi through the Sagana river valley, stopping for locally grown macadamia treats.
